Wow ... what a fantastic day. Thank you very much to everyone who came and made it the great event that it was. Special thanks to Alan Birchall, Peter Metelnick & Alison Biggs for teaching some great dances and also to DJ's Harry Seddon and Gary Lafferty who kept the dance floor full for 12 hours.
As a result of this event £1,700 was raised for the Flood Recovery Fund which was beyond my wildest dreams.
Thanks also to Shy Boots & Stompers who donated £500 to the event and effectively paid for the venue, to Glenn Rogers for providing 100 limited edition CD's whose proceeds all went to the recovery fund, to Peter & Alison's classes who raised £362 and to David Thompson from the Hilltop Hotel for ensuring everything passed without a hitch.
Finally, once again, thank you everyone.
28th October 2009 - Great response to new dance "Fight For This Love"
Thanks to everyone who has expressed an interest or provided positive feedback on my new dance Fight For This Love. I've had some lovely comments from across the globe which is amazing so thanks again. For those that haven't seen it click here for a link to the step sheet.
24th September 2009 - New Class
The first new Tuesday class took place this last Tuesday and I was delighted with the turnout. We had 26 brand new beginner dancers which is fantastic. I strongly believe that we should encourage and nuture our new dancers as they are the key to ensuring that linedancing continues and goes from strength to strength.
The Intermediate / Advanced was also well attended with approx 15 dancers attending. This class is a step up from my existing Thursday night class and I taught Release me and Jesse James which both went down really well.
If you know of someone who would like to start linedancing in the Carlisle area then please send them my way !
19th January 2009 - No more Wednesday classes
After much deliberation I have decided to only take one class per week for the time being, mainly because our baby is due on 10th March and I think one night a week will be enough for now. So Thursdays it is from now on, 7pm Beginners, 8pm Improvers, 9pm Intermediate. I am really grateful for everyone that has supported me on Wednesdays and I really hope you will all be able to make it on Thursday nights. Thanks again.
November 2008 - Xmas Party Date
The class Xmas Party will take place on Wednesday 17th December 2008. Admission will be the usual £3 and there will be an American Supper (ie bring something for the buffet). The evening will start as usual at 7.30pm and will go on till the last person has had enough (if the usual Wednesday class is anything to go by Richard & Sylvia will be going strong well into the night - where do you get your energy from !!!?) This will be the last class before Christmas, ie there will be no Thursday class on 18th December. Classes will resume on Wednesday 7th January 2009.

8th June 2008 - Event report from Manchester workshop
By Chris Salter - Boot Scoot, Manchester
Wow perfectly sums up the workshop that I ran yesterday. It’s very rare you get a line dance event / workshop where you actually like every dance that has been taught but, yesterday, this happened in Manchester.
Manchester very rarely gets visiting choreographers so I thought I would start up a Rising Stars workshop to allow rising stars of choreography to work alongside established choreographers so that they can both promote their dances. It also gives the rising star the opportunity to draw on the knowledge / experience of an established choreographer.
So, yesterday, the first rising star workshop was held in Manchester and what a fantastic day it was. We had Paul Turney as our rising star and Alan Haywood as the established choreographer and what a great job they did. Paul even gave us the world premiere of a dance that he had written the day before! So, here’s what they taught:
This was a 4 wall beginner dance that was the world exclusive! The music is 10000 Nights by Alphabeat and is a lovely, catchy tune that is a recent release. Being a beginner dance nothing particularly tricky in this dance – it is just a bit nippy. Great dance and, despite what others may think, at absolutely no point did I go wrong and cause others to go wrong!
I’m Over You / Feel That Beat – Alan – 32 Count / 2 Wall / Intermediate Lulu – You’re No Good / Bellamy Brothers – Reggae Cowboy
The dance with two names depending on what track you use. Despite being an intermediate dance, this dance was easy to pick up and didn’t cause any problems. Really nice dance that fits both tracks really well. The workshop was pretty much 50 / 50 split on which track they preferred to do the dance to. Personally, I preferred the Lulu track. Both tracks give the dance a very different feel to the dance though.
Rhythm – Paul – 32 Count / 4 Wall / Intermediate Snap! – Rhythm Is A Dancer (7” Edit)
The steps are easy. The music is great. The steps plus the music equals a very nippy dance. I slowed the music down 10% for the first time we danced it through and then we danced it at normal speed. Personally, this was my favourite dance of the workshop – mainly because it is a song from my youth! The steps fit the dance perfectly and nothing too complicated in the steps at all – which is good at high speed!
Even If – Alan – 32 Count / 4 Wall / Intermediate Andy Abraham – Even If
This dance was published in June’s edition of Linedancer Magazine so I was glad that Alan was teaching it. I really liked the song (even if the rest of Europe didn’t!) as it is a very upbeat, feel good song. Lovely dance that fits the music perfectly and is pretty easy to pick up .... unless you are me and have to do things during the teach (that’s my excuse anyway!).
True Love – Paul – 48 Count / 2 Wall / Intermediate Elton John And Kiki Dee – True Love
This is a waltz but a waltz with a bit of a difference – there is quite a bit of syncopation in it! However, the music is slow so it is not at all difficult to fit the syncopating in to it. The music for this dance was actually the music used for the first dance at Paul’s wedding so obviously has special meaning for Paul! The dance fits the music perfectly and has some very nice steps in it.
La Fiesta – Andrew, Simon and Sheila – 32 Count / 4 Wall / Beginner (Taught by myself) La Fiesta – Toma Vitamina
I slipped this one in so that Alan could have a little rest before teaching the final dance of the event. It took about two minutes to teach this dance as there is nothing difficult in it at all however, there is enough variation / feel goodness about the track, to keep even intermediate dancers wanting to dance it (as I have also found out at my own classes). Be aware that the Linedancer website shows this as being an intermediate dance but it is definitely a beginner dance.
Why I Love Home – Alan – 48 Count / 4 Wall / Intermediate Journey South – What I Love About Home
Another waltz but this time a nippy one so no syncopation! If you look at the step sheet for this dance it may cause a panic in you – four restarts and two tags! However, the restarts are always when you are facing the same direction so they are very easy to remember! A really nice waltz where the steps go perfectly with the music.
So the event was definitely a busy one and Paul and Alan did a fantastic job with their teaching and brought some fantastic dances with them to Manchester. I’d definitely have no problems in welcoming them back into Manchester!
7th June 2008 - Paul's new dance Rhythm is 12th most viewed dance of the day on Linedancer Magazine website.
